On Friday, February 12, 2019, Vitalii Bakulin, president of BENTONICOS DE ARGENTINA SA, met with Gustavo Gonzalez, mayor of the Municipality of Puerto Deseado, at the premises of this municipality in order to sign the agreement for the purchase of the fish processing plant. Other officials of the local municipality and Operational Manager of Bentonicos, Jorge Traba, were also present at the meeting.

The negotiations concerning the purchase of this municipal property started in 2017, as a result of the company’s aspiration to “add value to its southern king crab product”. For now, the production of this product takes place within tangent vessels TANGO 1 and TANGO 2, properties of the company, which have fishing permits in both national and provincial waters.

One of the fundamental goals of this transaction is to make the fishing production possible throughout the year.

In order to meet this goal, it is within the possibilities of the company to invest in other types of fishing products, that can be fully produced in 12-month period, for instance, incorporating hake or shrimps.

The plant is expected to be fully operational within 6 months. Currently, maintenance and reconditioning works are being carried out, which also promotes local work for inhabitants of Puerto Deseado.
